FACING THIS IMMINENT THREAT

Marauders invading communities, hacking men, women and children to death, taking hostages for ransom, maiming and 🔥 down entire villages is no longer news in Nigeria. 

These activities have also been centred around what used to be known as the MIDDLE BELT in Nigeria before the “politics of convenience” that co-opted it into the North. No doubts, the obvious but yet alleged Christian genocide in Nigeria has also been centred around the place.

With the recent killing of the MACBAN chief in Benue. The Idoma have come (not for the first time but now openly) under the radar of the rampaging Fulani Herders. 

This is not the first time such a preplanned gruesome murder has been sponsored, likely by same elements to legitimise what would then be termed a reprisal attack. Yet, without an overwhelming evidence, such a claim cannot be substantiated. 

In quick successions, they have massacred people in Otukpo-nobi, Akpachi, Ondo-Ugboju, Ohimini. Intelligence gatherings have it that many more places may yet come under attacks.

Where sleeping in their houses has become a dreaded thing for people, what can we say about farming for a people who are known as the “food basket of the nation” because their major preoccupation is farming?

My question is; what do we do as a people?

For communities less united, for vigilantes not armed, for an elite class less connected to their communities…
